Thur morn. 10:30
Dearest Mother,
Just a few lines to let you know that I'm feeling fine and hope that you are the same.
Well mother, since I last wrote to you we've had 2 problems. We made an attack on 5 hills and
during the attacks we covered 5 mi. All I do in these problems is just walk in front of the troops
and when we come in contact with the enemy the Umpire tells me to raise a certain flag so that the
co. commander can know when to make his troops deploy.
We're on a hill right now that we captured and the troops are digging fox holes for security in
case of air attacks. We'll stay here and defend this hill till midnight and then continue the
attack on the "reds."
Well mother I won't have anything to do till about 6:30 tonight so I'm going to go down in the
river that's below the hill we're defending and wash my clothes and take a bath. It's now 11:15
and my clothes should dry in about 20 min because it's really hot out now.
Well mother, I'll close now with lots of love to you, daddy and the kids.
Your loving Son,
"Jimmy"
P.S.
I haven't written to Rosie for almost 2 wks, so if she asks about me tell her that I'm O.K. and
the reason that I haven't written to her yet is because I'm pretty busy. It's a poor excuse I know,
but it will have to do. The real reason is that I hate to write letters, especially out on the
field like this.
