Dearest Mother,

Just a few lines to let you know that I'm feeling fine and hoping that you are the same.

I received a letter from Tony today that he wrote while he was home. I sure was glad to hear from him.

He sure is lucky to get every other afternoon off. I feel darn lucky when I get just Sun. off.

All that we did today was drill and do some brushing up of squad problems.

Well mother, there isn't anything else to say, so I'll close with lots of love to you mother dear, daddy and the kids.

   Your loving Son,

"Jimmy"
P.S.

Mother, I know that this is a small letter but I don't have anything new to write about, and the only reason that I wrote it is because I don't want you to worry about me and to let you know that I'm O.K. God bless you and keep you safe for me.
